Welcome to the tale of Sean Porter, a fifteen-year-old kid from the suburbs. It is 1980, and it is the tail end of Sean's summer. He has caught the soccer bug that has swept across America. He is looking forward to his sophomore year of high school, and is planning on trying out for the school soccer team.

 He is also doing his best to navigate through the minefield that is adolescence. As true for Sean as it was for me and you, it's a time in life that can be exhilarating in one moment, and devastating the next. How Sean copes, trying to learn from his triumphs and his mistakes in life and in soccer, creates a story that we all will recognize.
